Myofascial massage is a dynamic solution to pain relief. It works by releasing restrictions in the superficial layer of fascia more effectively and efficiently than any other massage technique. It also provides you with immediate relief from pain without using excessive force.
Fascia is the soft tissue that surrounds, supports, protects and connects each and every structure in the body. Gravity, injury, illness and other stressors affect the fascia, causing an imbalance in the connective tissue network. This is often experienced as pain, stiffness, discomfort or decreased flexibility in the body. It is one of the most direct ways to restore length and flexibility throughout the entire muscular system.
Benefits:
· Relieve pain for chronic pain sufferers
· Help injury patients rehab easier and faster
· Improve carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ and sciatica
· Increase energy and improve range of motion
· Improve posture and add more balance to the body
· Enhance performance for athletes
The contact is generally broad, slow and intentional. The approach is intense but not painful, which allows your body to relax during the massage session.
A treatment that is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. There are two main types of sports-related injury massages:
Restorative - Done during training, this is used to allow athletes to train harder while avoiding injury.
The intent is to calm the nervous system, begin the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body, ultimately speeding and improving the quality of healing.
Deep tissue therapy is massage that is applied to the deeper layers of muscle tissue in the body. It is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. The goal of deep tissue bodywork is to lengthen the restricted muscles that have to do with posture, balance and alignment.
Deep tissue massage can help alleviate postural distortions that are often the real cause of pain and injuries. It is great for relieving pain and tension in back, neck and hip muscles. It can help in the recovery from injury or to help prevent injuries. It can be used with some fibromyalgia issues as well as repetitive strain syndromes such as carpal tunnel, thoracic outlet and tennis/golfer's elbow.
When the muscles are tight in certain areas of the body it usually causes other areas to hurt or increases that areas chance of injuries. Using deep tissue techniques, I am able to work with the body and challenge its limits so that a newer, more relaxed state can be achieved.
Due to the nature of the work it can sometimes be uncomfortable and for that reason communication between client and therapist is very important, in order to work together on the muscles and tissue so that the maximum benefits are achieved with the least amount of pain.
Some people say that they have a high tolerance for pain. While that may be true in some way, I think it has more to do with the persons inability to feel what is going on in the body. The tightest muscles can often have no feeling in them. When this happens, the goal of deep tissue massage is to awaken feeling again so that the muscle will know more what to do as far as how much tension it should hold.
Deep tissue massage can be used for fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, strains/sprains, back and neck pain and many other conditions and symptoms.
Developed by Aaron Mattes, Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a dynamic system for improving your flexibility. AIS is a method of muscle lengthening and of releasing tension in the myofascial tissue which encapsulates your muscles. It involves dynamic, facilitated stretching of all the major muscle groups.
The underlying theory behind A.I. is that if a muscle is stretched too far, too fast, or for too long, it elicits a protective action known as the myotatic reflex, causing it to automatically and ballistically recoil in an attempt to prevent the muscle from tearing. This occurs about three seconds into a stretch.
Therefore, A.I. practitioners hold a stretch for only a second or two, before the myotatic reflex kicks in, then relax and repeat 10 times. Using this technique, the muscles exhibit a greater range of motion over the course of each set of stretching repeats.
The other key to A.I. is to contract the opposing muscles to allow the target muscle to relax. For example, when stretching the hamstrings, the quadriceps muscles on the front of the leg are contracted, relaxing the hamstrings and making them more susceptible to stretching.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
A relaxing and rejuvenating massage for expecting mothers. Focusing on the areas of discomfort associated with pregnancy such as hips and lower back area and specifically the sciatic nerve. While also taking care to avoid specific pressure points on the wrists and ankles that can gently stimulate the pelvic muscles.
After the first trimester, all massages will be done in side-lying position as recommended by the American Pregnancy Association. Research is proving that prenatal massage therapy can be very instrumental in a woman's prenatal care and that massage therapy performed on a regular basis during the pregnancy can improve labor outcomes and newborn health.
